In CakeHR we have two distinct types of managers:
Direct managers - managers based on company org chart. This is the person who has subordinates based on the org chart structure. Can access all employees who are one level directly under them (subordinates).
To edit Direct Managers: Company > Org chart - drag & drop employee cards over one another > Save or Open any employee profile > Employee tab > Direct Manager > select from dropdown > Save.
Team managers - based on team settings. This is the person who is responsible for a specific function in your company (Marketing, Sales, etc.). Employees who are managers to one or multiple team can access all employees in their teams.
To edit Team Managers: Settings > Employee Data > Teams > Add new or Eligibilities for existing teams > Save.
!!! The reason they are separated is a) because in larger companies team manager is not always your direct manager and vice versa; b) gives you, as admin of the account, more control over who has access to specific parts of employee data.
To edit Permissions: Settings > Permissions > Team Managers > Choose from the checkboxes > Save.
